Xiaomi launches the Redmi Note 2 with fingerprint scanner and 4000mAh battery

Xiaomi smartphones recently gained it’s way into the Nigerian market courtesy of Mobile In Africa (MIA) in partnership with Jumia. The first two smartphones from Xiaomi to be launched in Nigeria are the Redmi 2 and the Mi 4.

Xiaomi, yesterday at the company’s ‘Grand Finale’ event in China, launched it’s latest addition to the Redmi Note family, the Redmi Note 3.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 launched in Nigeria
The Redmi Note 3 isn’t exactly Xiaomi’s first metal built phone, however, it comes with a rather new metallic build which gives the device a rather interesting design. At 8.65mm, the smartphone can be seen as quite thin but of course, not in any where close to the thinnest phones we’ve heard of and oh, the device weighs 164g.

Looking at the specs sheet of the device, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 sports a 5.5-inch 1080p display protected with Gorilla Glass, 2.0GHz Helio X10 MediaTek chipset, 2 or 3GB RAM. The 2GB version of the device comes with 16GB internal storage while the 3GB version comes with 32GB internal storage out of the box. Unfortunately, both versions internal storage cannot be expanded using MicroSD card.

Talking on the camera, the Redmi Note 3 sports a 13 megapixels back camera with phase detection autofocus and 5 megapixels front facing camera with 36 smart beauty profiles. The Note 3 is actually the first Xiaomi smartphone to feature a fingerprint sensor which is said to unlock the device in about 0.3s and packs a 4000mAh battery which is responsible for the extra thickness of the phone.

The device will support 4G network connectivity on its dual SIM slots and will be running it’s own MIUI firmware which is based on Android 5.1.1 lollipop OS. The device will be available in basically three colors; silver, gold and dark grey.

Talking about pricing, the 2GB/16GB version of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is priced at RMN 899 ($140) while the 3GB/32GB version will be priced at RMB 1099 ($172). In terms of availability, the smartphone will be hitting the shelves first in China before reaching other markets and no specific period has been stated yet.
