The buzz on twitter retiring the favorite feature and introducing the like feature instead isn’t new. It’s actually been ongoing for a while now and thankfully, Twitter just made it official. You can no longer favorite tweets. Instead, you can now LIKE tweets which seems much better.
If you rush now to twitter to validate this report and not find a like button, sorry pal, the like feature on twitter is represented with a love symbol and not the usual thumbs up button you’d expect to see.
According to twitter in a blog post introducing the new like feature:
We are changing our star icon for favorites to a heart and we’ll be calling them likes. We want to make Twitter easier and more rewarding to use, and we know that at times the star could be confusing, especially to newcomers. You might like a lot of things, but not everything can be your favorite.
The heart, in contrast, is a universal symbol that resonates across languages, cultures, and time zones. The heart is more expressive, enabling you to convey a range of emotions and easily connect with people. And in our tests, we found that people loved it.

The new love symbol which signifies like on Twitter is also live on Twitter for iOS and android, twitter.com, tweetdeck, twitter for windows 10 and across every tweet on the internet as well as Vine android app and website. It isn’t yet available on Vine for iOS and twitter for MAC but twitter says it will be coming soon.
