The world’s 7th richest man and founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg, is currently in Lagos state, Nigeria.
He arrived precisely yesterday afternoon and this has been creating a lot of buzz both online and offline.
Mark, who was first sighted in Yaba, Lagos state, shared on his Facebook page, stating that this is his first visit to Nigeria.
Next stop: Lagos! This is my first trip to sub-Saharan Africa. I’ll be meeting with developers and entrepreneurs, and learning about the startup ecosystem in Nigeria. The energy here is amazing and I’m excited to learn as much as I can.
Our first stop is the Co-creation Hub Nigeria (CcHUB) in Yaba. I got to talk to kids at a summer coding camp and entrepreneurs who come to CcHub to build and launch their apps. I’m looking forward to meeting more people here!
Upon arrival, Mark’s first stop was visiting ‘Summer of Code Camp’ at the Co-Creation Hub (CcHub) in Yaba, Lagos State, Nigeria. There after, he visited Andela. Andela is an engineering organization that is building the next generation of technical leaders in Africa.
Although there is going to be a Facebook Live event later today, that isn’t Mark’s primary objective as to why he is in Nigeria.
Instead, he is in Nigeria to listen, learn and take ideas back to California on how Facebook can better support tech development and entrepreneurship across Africa. Additionally, he will be using his time in the country to visit the Yaba technology hub in Lagos, meet with developers and partners, and explore Nollywood.
More information regarding Mark Zuckerberg ‘s visit to Nigeria will be communicated as soon as I have them.
